Budapest, Hungary – Torrent Motorsports and sister team Mowbol GP celebrate after a strong showing in Grand Prix Online World Championship and Sprint Trophy championships.
The team celebrated a 1-2-3 finish with Borna Spoljaric winning from Sven Hesse with Matt Varley finishing in 3rd. The race was TMo dominated with the top three pulling away from everyone while having their own battles. Hesse was the early leader with Varley following closely and Spoljaric following a few seconds back. Hesse was the first to pit, followed by Varley a lap later and Spoljaric pitted 2 laps after.
The three drivers all battled for the rest of the race until Hesse stalled on his 3rd stop and lost 8 seconds; Varley took over the lead followed by Spoljaric but with 6 laps to go Varley needed to stop for tyres. This allowed Spoljaric to take the victory with Hesse finishing in 2nd and Varley slotted into 3rd.
The team showed good performance by getting a double podium finish. Florian Bekker finished 2nd after a race long battle with M. Patel, Petter Kaasa finished in 3rd after a good strategy got him up from 7th on the grid and also a risky pass around the outside of turn 5 with 2 laps to go. Mindaugas Klumbis finished in 7th with Kevin Brents finishing in 9th.
The race was a quiet event with not too much action due to the nature of the track with most of the passing happening in the pits. A late safety car period added some late excitement with the field all closing up but after it was released the only action was for the final podium spot where Kaasa and Kan-Mortiz Kammann were battling hard but Kammann tried a move that was never on and caused the cars to touch. Luckily Kaasa didn’t lose too much time and kept the position.
The series now heads into the summer break where there’s a 3 week gap until the next round at Spa in Belgium.
