NES Le Mans 24 Hours ends in disappointment

OHIO, USA – This past weekend was the final round of the Neo Endurance Series season, which saw the series head to the Le Mans circuit in France. The race lasting 24 hours and would earn the teams double points. Qualifying was held a week before the race with Marius putting our Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 car on pole for the Grand Touring class.

Kevin started the race and lead most of the first stint but due to leading used up the most fuel with teams behind saving in the draft. So Kevin dropped to 3rd position, this would be where he would remain till the end of the 2nd stint where our competitors decided to do more stints on a set of tyres than we wanted to so 10 seconds was lost to leaders. Jordan was now in the car and drop two solid stints to keep us still in contention.

Marius got in the car shortly before the 4th hour hit with a 20 second gap to the leading cars, by the end of the stint he had made up 18 seconds. In his 2nd stint Marius was starting to struggle with the tyres after they was pushed so hard. Kevin got back into the car shortly before the 6 hour mark and was slowly gaining on the leaders but disaster struck and he made contact in the Porsche Curves with another Aston Martin. After 23 minutes in the pit garage for repairs the car was too slow to carry on and would earn us our first ever DNF in two seasons racing in the Neo Endurance Series.

This means we finished 4th in the final standings after starting the race sitting in 2nd.

Maiden victory for Torrent Motorsports in Texas

Ohio-USA : After a strong 3rd place at Sebring, Torrent Motorsports turned up to round 2 of the Neo Endurance Series (NES) at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) with some confidence. With the addition of new driver Marius Golombeck joining Kevin Siggy and Jordan Weekes for rest of season things are looking positive for Torrent, even after all Aston Martins were hit with a 60kg balance of performance weight penalty for However Jordan has been struggling with sickness so it was just Kevin and Marius for this round.

Kevin turned the team confidence into pole position for the TMo Aston Martin after finally finding a set up and worked for him. The race started, Kevin pulled around a 1-2 second lead on the Coanda Corvette. The 2 second gap remained for most of the stint until slightly better pace for the Torrent driver and luck with traffic extended the gap to just over 10 seconds. After another full stint of the gap remaining around 10-20 seconds depending on traffic Kevin handed the car over to Marius.

Marius had two uneventful stints where he kept the gap at around 14 seconds and handed the car back over to Kevin to finish the race with Torrent earning their maiden victory in the NES. The win puts Torrent to the top of the GT standings, 2 points ahead of the CoRe car and 4 points ahead of the SimRC car in 3rd.

The next round of the season heads to Motegi circuit in Japan on 11th December 2016.

NES Season 3 Kick Off

Ohio, USA - Neo Endurance Series started it’s third season this past weekend – the first round was a 6 hour race at Sebring International Raceway where Torrent Motorsports moved up to the GT class for this season using an Aston Martin DBR9. The driver line up remained unchanged from last season with Kevin and Jordan teaming up again, with a 3rd driver likely to be named closer to the 24 hours of Le Mans season finale round. With an average ‘strength of field’ of over 4700 this season of NES is a very competitive and tough championship.TMo-NES3-R1-1

As with last season qualifying sessions are on a Saturday with the races being on the following Sunday, Kevin qualified the TMo Aston Martin in 3rd position making it our best result from qualifying in our time racing in the NES. The race started and the Core Motorsports car jumped us into 3rd position, Kevin slotted into 4th and went into fuel saving mode. The leading SimRC car drove off into the sunset but the 2nd place SimRC car didn’t seem to have the same pace and was just fast enough to keep the Core car and Kevin behind. Near the end of the first stint the 2nd place SimRC car had contact in turn 1 with a Prototype and had an off, this allowed the Core Motorsports car into P2 but Kevin couldn’t make it through.TMo-NES3-R1-5

After Kevin’s first two stints were complete he had managed to save 4 laps of fuel over the leaders and put the TMo car in a good position strategy wise. Jordan got into the car for his two stints. His pace was not quite as good as Kevin’s but was still good enough to stay in the top 5. Disaster struck near the end of Jordan’s first stint though when a GTS class car missed his braking marker and rear ended Jordan into the turn 6 hairpin, this caused Jordan to go into a spin and make slight contact with the barrier. No damage was done though, all that was lost was valuable time.

Kevin got back into the car with around 2 hours 30 minutes to go for his final stints, he got us back up to 3rd due to putting in some great lap times and also some luck with others suffering engine problems. At the end of Kevin’s stint he was suffering with electronic issues so Jordan had to jump in the car to do a unplanned stint. The electrical issues went away and Jordan held the 3rd place position Kevin had got back. Kevin then jumped back into the car for the final hour to bring the car home in 3rd position.TMo-NES3-R1-6

Jordan pulling off his outside pass in the final chicane

Ohio, USA – The final round of the Neo Endurance Series took place at the Nurburgring this past weekend. Due to a technical issue during qualifying, Torrent Motorsports didn’t manage to set a lap time and had to start the race from pit lane. The race started with Jordan Weekes in the car but as he left the pit lane he disengaged the pit lane speed limiter too early and we got a 15 second stop and hold penalty. Jordan came in the following lap to serve the penalty and once he left the pitlane the Torrent Ford GT was already 50 seconds behind 6th place. It took Jordan two full stints to catch up to the cars ahead. After another two stints of battling, which included a great outside pass entering the final chicane. Jordan handed the car over to Kevin in 2nd position.

Kevin got in the car and just needed to make sure the IDRK car didn’t beat us by more than one position to keep 3rd in the standings. Kevin brought the car home after 8 hours of racing in 2nd position after 3 uneventful hours and secured 3rd in the championship for Torrent Motorsports.
