Jordan pulling off his outside pass in the final chicane

Ohio, USA – The final round of the Neo Endurance Series took place at the Nurburgring this past weekend. Due to a technical issue during qualifying, Torrent Motorsports didn’t manage to set a lap time and had to start the race from pit lane. The race started with Jordan Weekes in the car but as he left the pit lane he disengaged the pit lane speed limiter too early and we got a 15 second stop and hold penalty. Jordan came in the following lap to serve the penalty and once he left the pitlane the Torrent Ford GT was already 50 seconds behind 6th place. It took Jordan two full stints to catch up to the cars ahead. After another two stints of battling, which included a great outside pass entering the final chicane. Jordan handed the car over to Kevin in 2nd position.

Kevin got in the car and just needed to make sure the IDRK car didn’t beat us by more than one position to keep 3rd in the standings. Kevin brought the car home after 8 hours of racing in 2nd position after 3 uneventful hours and secured 3rd in the championship for Torrent Motorsports.

OHIO, USA – The 5th round of the Neo Endurance Series was held at the Brazilian circuit of Interlagos, Torrent Motorsports headed into the race sitting 3rd in the GT2 standings with a healthy lead over 4th. Qualifying went well for the TMo team as Kevin Siggy equalled the best qualifying position of the season but putting the Ford GT into 5th position. The race started and Kevin held his 5th position, in his 2nd stint he moved up to 4th and was closing on 3rd position. Jordan Weekes took over the car for his first stint but picked up a throttle issue so he only completed one of his two planned stints.Start

Kevin got back into the car and was setting personal best lap times over and over, then disaster struck. The #10 Fenix HPD car made contact with Kevin and made the TMo car hit the outside wall in turn 3 very hard, the car was towed to pit road and 20 minute of repairs was required. Torrent were now in last in class (9th), 10 laps down on the leader and 9 laps down on the next position. Kevin and Jordan circulated to get to the 4.2 hours needed to be classified to score some points but it was then decided to complete the full 6 hours after an issue to the GoT car meant that the team gained a position as the extra few points could be critical at end of the season.

The race ended and Kevin brought the car home in 8th position in the GT2 class but after post race investigations the KRT car got disqualified for a driver time infringement. This meant that Torrent moved up to be classified in 7th position.

Torrent still sit 3rd place in the standings but the gap to 4th position was halved. The next round of the season takes place on March 20 at the Italian circuit of Monza.

Neo 6hours of COTA roundup

tmo-neo-round2Ohio, USA – The second round of the Neo Endurance Series took place at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) this past weekend. Torrent Motorsports started P9 in the GT2 class, with Jordan Weekes starting the car and Kevin Siggy partnering him this weekend.

The first two hours were uneventful for Weekes and he moved up a few positions and ended up 5th after his 2 hour stint was over. Weekes did have a scary moment when a prototype car made contact in turn 14 but other than a dent in the door the car was fine. Siggy took over the car and was putting in some really fast lap times while also saving fuel as calculations confirmed that Weekes had used up too much fuel in his stints and went 2 laps shorter than was planned before the race. After Siggy’s planned two stints he climbed up to 2nd in class, it was then decided that he would stay in the car till the end.

In Siggy’s stints he was consistently faster than the leading car but had a mountain to climb due to the lead being 50 seconds. With 10 minutes to go of the race the lead had shrunk down to under 15 seconds but the gap was just too large and Siggy brought the car home in 2nd place, just 8 seconds behind the winning car.

The result means the team jumps up to 3rd in the standings after two rounds. Round three of the season heads to Watkins Glen on 20th December.

Hot off a 2nd place finish at Watkins Glen Torrent Motorsports returned to the iRacing Road Warrior Series – Endurance Cup with the Spa 24hrs in Belgium. Simon Melhuish once again returned to the cockpit of the teams BMW Z4 GT3 re-joined by Sebring 12hr winning co-driver Kyle Williams, also returning to the team Harley Hamnett who subbed for Kyle in Watkins Glen, and newcomers to the TMo Road Warrior team Jordan Weekes and Fran López Fernández.

Due to yet another issue with the BMW Z4 GT3 the team was unable to set a qualifying time, which meant the car started 31st in class. Harley was first up in the car and began working his way forward, there was a big scare for the team as he dropped the left rear tire on the grass braking for the bus stop chicane that resulted in him getting some air over the sausage kerb and landing hard but thankfully the BMW’s strength shone through and he was able to drive away and continue with only minor cosmetic damage, after a double stint Harley pitted and the pit crew went to work servicing the car and repairing some body work damage.

Fran was up next and scheduled to do a double stint, once out on track Fran’s speed started to show as he started to really push forward making big gains on the leaders. After 2 stints Fran asked the team if he could stay in the car, the team agreed so he stayed in for a third stint continuing to close on the leader, as Fran was coming to the end of his third stint and Simon was gearing up ready to get in the car Fran radioed to the team requesting to stay in for a fourth stint, team agreed again so Fran took tires and fuel and went back out, a few laps into the stint and running 2nd and gaining on the leader trouble struck as Fran and a Prototype made contact exiting La Source and Fran made heavy contact with the outside wall, at this point the team were fearing the worst but surprisingly the car only suffered minor damage and while not looking pretty was still driving straight but was losing speed on the straights due to the aero damage, Fran reported back that the car was good to stay out so the team told him to stay out and push on so he did and despite the loss of top speed began to close on the leader again, at the end of the stint Fran pitted and Simon got on-board the car the team opted not to repair the damage and just do fuel and tires and send Simon out.

Simon pressed on but the damage to aero was starting to cause some problems with engine cooling so at the end of Simon’s stint the team decided to repair the damage which cost them 3 laps and Kyle would get onboard, the car rejoined the track in 9th with Kyle on-board in full attack mode to make up the 3 laps lost in the pits. As night fell and the drivers took turns in the car making up places at sunrise the team had recovered to 2nd and were only 1 lap behind the leader when suddenly the leader hit trouble and lost 3 laps in the pits, as the team took the lead the decision was made to stop pushing and nurse the car to the finish. With a splash and dash with 3 laps to go Fran crossed the finish line and took Victory for Torrent Motorsports by over a lap to 2nd place making it two wins and a second in the first 3 rounds of the iRacing Road Warrior Series.

The next round of the iRacing Road Warrior – Endurance Cup is the Petit Le Mans on the 10th of October.

out right behind the 3rd place Ford GT and had a stint long battle with the GT, Hamnett got back into the car in the following pit stop and exited the pits in a clear 3rd place after the Ford GT had technical issues during their pit stop. When Hamnett handed the car over to Melhuish for the final time, Melhuish exited the pits in 2nd after the car ahead lost all pace. It was then confirmed that the team had calculated the fuel incorrectly and the car was under fueled. Melhuish needed to save around 4 laps of fuel in 40 minutes while also maintaining the gap to 3rd. A 12 second gap soon dropped to 8 seconds, 5 laps later it was under 5 seconds. With 10 minutes remaining of the 6 hours the team thought the car now had enough fuel to finish but it was marginal, Melhuish nursed the car to finish with only a few litres in the fuel tank. Only just beating the 3rd place Ford GT by 2 seconds. The next round of the iRacing Road Warrior – Endurance Cup is the 24 hours of Spa on the 1st/2nd of August.
